FAQs

A Micron is 1 Millionth of a Meter
A Hair on our heads are between 60 – 120 Microns
Scientists have suggested that Covid is between 0.12-0.16 Microns

HEPA is an acronym for high-efficiency particulate arrestance, or air filtration. “It means that, in order to meet the HEPA standard, a filter must achieve a specified efficiency,” . “When we talk about efficiency, we are typically talking about a HEPA grade of H13 or H14.” H13-H14 HEPA are within the highest tier of HEPA air filtration and are considered medical-grade. “A HEPA grade of H13 can remove 99.95% of all particles in the air measuring 0.3 microns in diameter, while a HEPA grade H14 removes 99.995%,” of all particles in the air measuring 0.1 Microns

“The 0.1 micron is the most difficult size of a particle to capture,” . “It is known as the most penetrating particle size (MPPS).” Therefore, the expressed percentage is the filter’s worst case efficiency, and particles that are larger or smaller than 0.1 microns are trapped with even higher efficiency.
Note: Europe’s H ratings should not be confused with U.S. MERV ratings. The HEPA H13 and H14 in Europe is approximately equivalent to a MERV 17 or 18 in the United States.

EN18222:2019 & ISO 29463
Each Filter of this Standard comes with its own Test Certificate

Because we don’t want to take any chances and based on the size of the Covid Virus being between 0.12 – 0.16 Microns we need to use HEPA of H14 standards to trap the maximum amount of Virus and Bacteria from the Air – This is not a case of, I don’t need Clean Room or Hospital Operating
Theatre Standards of Filtration and Purification – YES YOU DO

As stated HEPA of H14 standards removes 99.995% meaning for every 100, 0000 Particles in the Air, this will only leave 5 particles out of 100,000 – Removing 999,995 What remains is safe The variation between what maybe termed as True Hepa which can be deemed an E11 Filter HEPA of H14 Standards can be upto 3000 Xs more efficient

Most HEPA filters are made of interlaced glass fibers that create a fibrous web. “However, recent developments in HEPA filtration include the use of synthetic materials with a membrane,”
HEPA filters capture and remove particles through the basic process of straining and direct impact, but also through more complex mechanisms known as interception and diffusion, which are designed to capture a greater percentage of particles.

HEPA removes Particles from the Air and puts nothing back unlike some of the alternative Technology that has terms such as Ozone, Ionizers, Plasma, PCO – Photo Catalytic Oxidation, UVC, UV, Fogging, Misting, etc

Scientists have highlighted the dangers associated with Ozone and have recently stated based on testing this equipment that it changes the chemistry in the air potentially causing dangerous VOCs. They have stated that this untried, untested, unproven equipment does not have to meet the standards of HEPA Filtration and recently the above Technologies have been removed from Schools in the USA and litigation is ongoing due to the inaccuracies of the paid for independent testing Medical Grade HEPA of H13 & H14 that meet EN 1822 Standards has been used and trusted for decades in Hospital Operating Theatres and Pharma Clean Rooms and this is not the time to experiment with the effects that this technology may cause you short,
medium and long term health

When choosing an Air Purifier – its not just about the Filter You need to have a Purifier that has a Fan Capable of changing the Air at least 6 times per hour or as referred to as Air Changes Per Hours (ACH) IF you are in a room with someone for any length of time you do not want to be exposed to a viral load that may infect you – you need to have a Fan that is powerful enough to change the full volume of Air and unfortunately the vast Majority of cleaners cannot achieve this Some of the Air Purifiers/Cleaners that can achieve this can only do so at their highest fan speeds and this can in turn make it impossible to be in the same room due to noise pollution

We recently looked at a product that claimed it had the capacity to clean the air of a room of 1000M3 but to achieve this the fan was at 4/5 and it indicated that the sound dbs would be 72 – to put this into perspective – a Washing machine at its highest spin is 60 dbs – as you can imagine – 72 dbs would not make a workable school or office

Most HEPA filters are made of interlaced glass fibers that create a fibrous web. “However, recent developments in HEPA filtration include the use of synthetic materials with a membrane,” adds Nagl.
HEPA filters capture and remove particles through the basic process of straining and direct impact, but also through more complex mechanisms known as interception and diffusion, which are designed to capture a greater percentage of particles.

The HEPA standard traps very small particles, including those that are invisible to the human eye, but harmful to our health, such as viruses and bacteria. Since the web of fibers in a medical-grade HEPA filter are extremely dense, they can trap the smallest particles at the highest rate, and are more efficient at removing harmful toxins from the environment.
For perspective, a human hair is between 60 and 120 microns in diameter. Pollen is 100- 300 microns. Viruses vary between >0.1 and 0.5 microns. However, it is important to remember that, even though the H13 HEPA is considered 99.95% effective at removing particles in the air measuring 0.3 microns, this is the worst case efficiency. It can still remove particles that are smaller and larger. In fact, the process of diffusion is very effective for removing particles under 0.3 microns, such as the coronavirus.
Just to clarify that viruses do not live on their own. They need a host. “Viruses often attach to fine dust particles, so larger particles in the air can have viruses on them, too. With a 99.95% efficient HEPA filter, you capture all of them.”

As you might expect, medical-grade HEPA filters are used in hospitals, operating theaters, and pharmaceutical manufacturing. “They are also used in high-quality rooms and electronic control rooms, where you really need clean air. For instance, in the production of LCD screens,”
